Looking for a new “gig?” We may have one for you. New Jersey entertainment and media companies Sidney Productions LLC and J-RO Productions LLC have partnered to produce an all new “short” comedy series based on the not-so-stereotypical life in the local music industry. “Gigs” peeks into the funny and ironic situations presented in dealing with personal acquaintances, the solving of arising problems, and the overall ability to survive life in the music business.
Written and created by New Jersey native musicians, Jon Rogers and Craig Daniel, “Gigs” was a long time in the making. Daniel says, “We LOVE comedy… and though performing live music has been a life-long passion, we realized that throughout the journey, funny stories were materializing throughout our musical careers. We needed to write down these ideas and see if we could come up with something… and here we are.”
Several months ago Rogers and Daniel came up with the initial premise and script for the first pilot episode, and shortly thereafter began scouting locations and searching for a cast. Daniel stars as the main character, clearly and loosely based on himself, though the script and other characters are completely fictional. Rogers says, “We feel reality television has run its course… We are very excited to bring more scripted fictional programming back to audiences.”
Rogers is an Emmy-award winning director and amassed a superb crew of professional film experts in lighting, sound, & photography to help produce the pilot episode. Daniel & Rogers also hired TV producer Mary Granahan to assist in casting, story development, and editing the project. Daniel says, “It’s very exciting. I have been performing live music and improvisational comedy for about 20 years… but to be a part of a film based comedy like this, is truly an amazing and challenging opportunity for me to grow as a performer.”
Though “Gigs” pilot episode is a “short,” it is being developed as an on-going short-episode series. The pilot episode has been entered in the annual Comedy Central Pilot Competition as well, and if selected as a finalist, has the potential to be developed into a full length series on the popular cable channel.
